i’m guessing by internal engine noise means this bucket of bolts needs a new engine

Sure, the engine is probably junk, but $5500 for everything else? This begs for some sort of engine swap while still retaining the creature comforts and stock appearance. Diesel engines are cool, so why not bump up the towing capacity a bit with more torque from something of the likes of a Cummins something-or-other. Or maybe a Duramax do-the-torque-thing. Maybe try a Powerstroke not-an-inline-configuration.

Probably just some timing chain problems....
Engines are pretty cheap so if you do the work yourself, you may be able to eek out a few thousand in profit.

yea i dont think i’d be able to do an engine swap. If the chain could be done in place it could be possible.

It can but IIRC it’s on the back side in front of the trans so that would have to come out. And who’s to really know until you get in there?
If you could get it down to $3k it would definitely be worth a shot.
